About Me - Father, Husband, Community Leader
My wife, Jennifer - a continuation high school teacher, daughters, Madison and Natalie, and I have lived in La Mirada since 2009. Jennifer and I are college sweethearts who met at Cal State Fullerton where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration - Economics. Our two daughters, Madison and Natalie, are La Mirada High School graduates both honored with Senior banners when they graduated (2018 and 2021) in front of the high school for their outstanding achievements in community service, the arts, and academics. Madison and Natalie also attended La Pluma Elementary and Benton Middle School where I served on the PTA and School Site Council. This year they both graduated from college, Madison from Cal State Long Beach with a BA in Film (after transferring from Colorado Mesa to CSULB due to the pandemic), and Natalie from UC Davis (in 3 years) with a BA in Political Science. Both benefited from many of the programs we offer at our schools, and the experience with their teachers helped steer them toward their career goals.
To ensure Madison and Natalie could maximize their experience in school I got involved at every level. I built relationships with teachers, administrators, and parents so when issues occurred, like La Mirada High School initially dropping Honors-Biology for the 2017-2018 academic year, I could immediately contact those in the district with the power to make changes and ensure the Honors Biology class was put back on the schedule so our freshman wouldn't be academically behind their peers when it came time to apply for college in 4-years.
With the La Pluma PTA, I helped with the orchestration of our annual PTA Talent Show and served on the PTA board assisting with numerous activities such as the annual Fall Festival, various special events and activities, and Winter Concert performances. We addressed cyberbullying head-on by working with the principal to handle fake Instagram accounts created by students and ensured school administrators would confidentially notify parents so they could address this problem at home.
At Benton Middle School, I was elected to the School Site Council, overseeing the goals and objectives for the school and the use of discretionary funds to support vital programs, extracurricular activities, and our teachers' needs. I arranged for technology grants to the theater department funding sound mixers and other equipment and volunteered countless hours with teachers, parents, and PTA members for school performances and events.
I served as the La Mirada High School Key Club Advisor supporting our high school students with their community service projects like the annual school year kick-off day-of-service gathering of Southern California area Key Club students at La Mirada High where hundreds of Key Club members made blankets and decorated socks for cancer patients and children at CHOC. I oversaw their fundraising efforts for various programs including a program providing newborns neo-natal tetanus shots to protect them when they are born in a non-sterile environment (third-world). I provided our students leadership advice and chaperoned countless activities from Beach Clean-Up Service Projects at Bolsa Chica to Key Club conferences.
I served on the La Mirada High School Aquatics Booster Board working with board members, parents, and local officials to eliminate the enormous annual charge the City of La Mirada billed the swimming and water polo families. I joined my fellow parents in speaking out against our city when our LMHS Girls' Water Polo team match was scratched by Splash! in place of Sunny Hills High School's Girls' Water Polo team. We made it clear to the city that bumping La Mirada High School's students from their home pool for paying teams from outside our city is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by parents and residents.
Through the La Mirada Kiwanis Club, a service club dedicated to serving and improving the lives of children in the community, I have served as President, Vice-President, Board Member, Chair of Relay for Life, Chair for the Annual La Mirada Kids Fishing Derby, Fireworks Booth, School Grant Advisory Board, Christmas Shopping Spree, and Scholarship Board. If you have ever enjoyed a pancake breakfast at the Easter Egg Hunt, Fishing Derby, or Little League Opening Ceremony you've seen me, my family, and friends in action serving the children of La Mirada. There is no greater experience than making a community better for our children.
Professionally I am a technology entrepreneur who is frequently sought because I build businesses. I work from my home office as an executive for a technology company based outside of Washington DC which provides software, services, and technology staffing for our military and various federal government agencies. My previous companies in healthcare, technology, and education have won numerous awards and achieved great success during my tenure as an executive.
I believe my experience with our schools, professional success, and community service background make me the most qualified member of our community to represent our friends and neighbors on the Board of Education. I am a hard worker who sees a herculean effort ahead to keep our schools from closing, academic performance improving, and providing teachers the tools and support necessary to prepare students for a hyper-competitive and technologically advancing world.
